Origin of a Facebook Group
One day back in 2010, there was a random citizen of Eagle Mountain, Utah. We can call him Scott, because that’s his name. He was scrolling through his Facebook feed. As he did so, he realized that there was no group for the citizens of Eagle Mountain City. There was nowhere for people to complain about HOA overreach. Nowhere to post awesomely funny cat pictures. Nowhere for people to discuss the goings-on, seasonal fires, local elections, or other concerns affecting the good folks of Eagle Mountain city. After careful consideration, he created the group now known as Eagle Mountain City Citizens.
This group began to flourish. For several years, his wife, along with many other helpful and dedicated volunteers worked countless hours to cultivate and nurture the group. There were good times and bad times. Times when members of the group came together, and times when they bickered endlessly. The admins and mods worked through all of the natural disasters, the crazy growth in the area, and some head-scratching posts. They have worked together to grow and develop this awesome group into what it is today.
Eagle Mountain City Citizens was started by some guy and his wife. It is in no way affiliated with or supported by the city of Eagle Mountain. It is purely voluntary, and the volunteers are compensated in no way, except to know that they are doing their level best to contribute to the cause.
The rules are not arbitrary – they have all have their own origin story. When a moderator or admin takes an action, understand that it is because they want to help the quality of the group. It is not to meddle with, interfere, or control anyone. It is not influenced or funded by the city. It’s just a volunteer doing their part to serve the community. We all want the same thing. Let us do our best to ensure that this group is as good as it can be.
